Mount Hope is a Solmar community on the northwest corner of Mount Hope Road and Columbia Way, immediately north of Bolton. Caledon Council approved the Official Plan Amendment on 24 February 2026 — it is now OPA 9 — and the draft plan of subdivision is in its second submission review.

That approval is the reason this one is worth watching and the reason to be patient with it. The land use is settled. The lots are not.

Before you register anywhere

I check every GTA low-rise launch against the builder’s own material and the municipality’s planning file. A lot of them do not survive the check — one was a court-appointed receiver’s name for a project whose 329 existing buyers were having their agreements repriced or terminated — and most of the rest publish nothing a buyer could actually verify.

Run the free five-minute check on the project you are considering, or read the full 2026 audit.

How many homes? The Town’s own documents give three answers

This matters, because the number changes what the neighbourhood will feel like. Across Caledon’s own file the figure has moved:

FigureSource and date
1,045 units — 360 singles and semis, 275 towns, 410 apartmentsFiscal impact study, February 2025
Approximately 700 to 1,000 dwellingsThe Town’s own file page
About 900 units, roughly 2,800 people and 130 jobsPlanning justification brief, March 2026

That spread is not a contradiction between the builder and the Town — it is one file evolving across submissions, which is normal and even healthy. But it does mean nobody can honestly tell you today how many homes Mount Hope will have, and any registration site quoting a precise count is inventing it.

The apartments Solmar is not advertising

Solmar markets Mount Hope as freehold townhomes and single detached homes. The Town’s secondary plan for the same lands also contemplates apartment forms — around 410 units in the earliest modelling — plus commercial and parkland.

That is not dishonest of Solmar; a builder describes the product it is selling, not the whole plan. But if you are buying a detached home here on the understanding that the community is all low-rise, you should know that mid-rise density is in the approved plan. Ask which block you are on and what backs onto it before you sign.

It is marketed as Bolton. It is north of Bolton.

Solmar’s page says “Bolton, Ontario.” The site sits immediately north of the Bolton settlement area boundary, on lands brought into the settlement area through the boundary expansion.

The practical difference: Bolton proper has a main street, a village core, schools and services that already exist. Mount Hope is the new edge beyond it. You get Bolton as your nearest town — which is a real amenity, and better than most Caledon growth areas manage — but you are not buying into the village, you are buying next to it, and the retail and schools on your side of the boundary arrive later.

The other thing to be clear-eyed about is the commute. Caledon has no GO train station. A Bolton rail extension has been studied for years and is not built. From here you are driving — Highway 50 south to the 407 and 427, or across to Highway 410 at Mayfield. For the wider picture see my Caledon pre-construction guide.

Do not confuse this with the other Mount Hopes

  • Mount Hope Estates — 15890 Mount Hope Road, Ward 4, files 21T-16002C and RZ 16-04. An eleven-lot estate subdivision on the Oak Ridges Moraine. A different site, a different scale, nothing to do with Solmar.
  • Mount Hope, Hamilton — a community near Hamilton airport, with its own unrelated new-home projects. Searches for “Mount Hope homes” return both.

The honest drawbacks

  • The secondary plan is approved. The subdivision is not. The draft plan is in second submission review. Until it is draft approved, no lots, no street pattern and no unit count are fixed. This is early even by pre-construction standards.
  • Servicing is the gating item. These are boundary expansion lands and Phase 1 of a phasing plan. Water and wastewater capacity, and where you sit in the sequence, determine when anything gets built. That is a regional infrastructure question, not a builder question, and it is the most common reason Caledon timelines move.
  • No price exists. Solmar has published none. Neither has anyone else, honestly.
  • No sales office, no floor plans, no sizes, no lot widths. Registration is the only thing available today.
  • Apartments are in the plan even though they are not in the marketing.
  • This is a long hold. OPA approved February 2026, subdivision still in review. If you need to be in a home within two years, this is not that.
  • Closing costs. On a freehold new build, development charges, levies, utility enrolment, Tarion and builder adjustments routinely add tens of thousands on top of the purchase price. Whether they are capped in your agreement, and at what number, is the most valuable thing to establish before signing.

Common questions

Is Mount Hope approved?

The Official Plan Amendment is. Caledon Council approved it on 24 February 2026 and it is now OPA 9, establishing the Mount Hope West Secondary Plan. The draft plan of subdivision, file 21T-25003C, is still in second submission review and has not been draft approved.

Where exactly is Mount Hope?

The northwest corner of Mount Hope Road and Columbia Way in Ward 6 — 9408 Columbia Way and 0 and 14320 Mount Hope Road. Immediately north of the Bolton settlement area boundary, on about 33.7 hectares.

How many homes will Mount Hope have?

Not settled. The Town’s fiscal impact study modelled 1,045 units, its file page says roughly 700 to 1,000 dwellings, and the March 2026 planning brief says about 900. Any precise figure quoted elsewhere is not coming from the Town or from Solmar.

What does Mount Hope cost?

Not published. Solmar has released no prices, sizes or lot widths, and there is no sales office.

Is Mount Hope in Bolton?

It is marketed as Bolton and Bolton is the nearest town, but the site sits north of the Bolton settlement area boundary on lands added through the settlement area boundary expansion. You are next to the village, not in it.

Does Caledon have a GO train?

No. There is no GO rail station in Caledon. A Bolton rail extension has been studied for years and is not built. The nearest stations are on the Kitchener line in Brampton.
