By Jatin Dua · Broker of Record, RE/MAX Quantum Realty · Updated 30 October 2026 · 8 min read — A broker’s comparison of Etobicoke’s five TCDSB Catholic high schools: their programs, locations, Bishop Allen’s 2026 relocation and what it means for buyers.

Short answer

My top five Catholic high schools in Etobicoke are Michael Power/St. Joseph (IB program, Eringate Drive), Bishop Allen Academy (AP and French Immersion, at 2 St. Andrews Blvd from September 2026 during rebuilding), Father John Redmond (audition-based Regional Arts Program near Lake Shore), Father Henry Carr (AP and gifted enrichment, Martin Grove Road) and Monsignor Percy Johnson (communication technology and TV studio, Kipling Avenue). The order is my judgement, not an official ranking.

How I chose these five

I looked at every Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) secondary school with an Etobicoke address and compared what each one actually offers, using the schools’ own TCDSB pages. Etobicoke has five of them, so this list is less about who made the cut and more about which school fits which kind of student.

  • Signature programs: International Baccalaureate (IB), Advanced Placement (AP), French Immersion, arts by audition and Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM).
  • Stability: whether the school is in its permanent building or relocating.
  • Location: which part of Etobicoke it serves and what housing sits around it.

The order is my judgement as a broker who helps families pick neighbourhoods, not an official ranking. TCDSB says its secondary schools accept applications from all students living in the City of Toronto, and applicants do not need to be baptized Catholic, so always confirm admission details with the board and the school.

1. Michael Power/St. Joseph High School

What it offers

Michael Power/St. Joseph is the only Etobicoke Catholic high school whose TCDSB page lists an International Baccalaureate program. Students take pre-IB in Grades 9 and 10, then the IB Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12.

The school also lists an Extended French Program, co-operative education, English as a Second Language and special education support. Its SHSM page names three sectors: Health and Wellness, Sports, and Justice, Community Safety and Emergency Services.

What it means for buyers and renters

The school was founded by the Basilian Fathers and the Sisters of St. Joseph, and its tagline is “Home of Scholars and Champions.” In 2018 to 2019 it celebrated its 500th TCDAA championship, so families with athletes tend to ask about it as often as IB families do.

Because IB draws students from a wide area, being close to the school matters less for admission than for the daily commute. Living within walking distance simply saves a Grade 9 student a bus ride.

Practical notes

  • Address: 105 Eringate Drive, Etobicoke, M9C 3Z7
  • Grades: 9 to 12
  • Phone: 416-393-5529
  • Check the school’s IB page for how admission to the program works. The page I read does not describe the entrance process.

2. Bishop Allen Academy

What it offers

Bishop Allen Academy combines enriched Grade 9 courses, senior Advanced Placement courses and Early French Immersion at the secondary level. The school says AP students may earn an AP diploma at graduation, and Immersion graduates may qualify for the Immersion French Certificate.

Its pages also list vocal and instrumental music, visual art and drama, varsity teams such as soccer, basketball and volleyball, and Specialist High Skills Major programs.

What it means for buyers and renters

The big news is the building. TCDSB’s relocation page says the school moves to the former Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School at 2 St. Andrews Boulevard beginning September 2026 while a replacement school is built on the Royal York Road site. The construction page lists anticipated occupancy as “to be determined.”

For readers searching for a Bishop Allen ranking: the board does not publish one. The province’s school information page lists preliminary 2024 to 2025 data showing 81 per cent of Grade 9 students meeting the math standard and 94 per cent passing the Grade 10 literacy test on the first attempt, with enrolment of about 1,460.

If you are buying near the Royal York Road campus expecting a short walk to Bishop Allen, factor in that students are at the temporary site for now. The long-term picture is a brand-new building on the 14.5-acre ravine property the school has used since it opened in September 1989.

Practical notes

  • Permanent address: 721 Royal York Road, Etobicoke, M8Y 2T3
  • Temporary site from September 2026: 2 St. Andrews Boulevard
  • Grades: 9 to 12
  • Phone: 416-393-5549

3. Father John Redmond Catholic Secondary School and Regional Arts Centre

What it offers

Father John Redmond is the arts choice. Its Regional Arts Program is a four-year program with admission by audition only, offering dance, drama, visual arts and music in three streams: band, strings and vocal. Graduates receive a specialized arts certificate.

The school page also lists an Advanced Placement program, Grade 9 course information and student clubs.

What it means for buyers and renters

The school sits on Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive near Lake Shore Boulevard West and Kipling Avenue, so it is the closest Catholic secondary school for the New Toronto, Long Branch and Alderwood side of south Etobicoke. Students also have Colonel Samuel Smith Park on the doorstep.

The province’s school information page lists preliminary 2024 to 2025 enrolment of about 1,160 students. It also shows 75 per cent of Grade 9 students meeting the provincial math standard and 94 per cent passing the Grade 10 literacy test on the first attempt.

Practical notes

  • Address: 28 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive, Etobicoke, M8V 4B7
  • Grades: 9 to 12
  • Arts applicants should read the Regional Arts Program admission handbook and audition guides on the school site.

4. Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School

What it offers

Father Henry Carr is the north Etobicoke option with Advanced Placement and gifted and enrichment opportunities. Its academics page also lists the Carr York Soccer Program and co-op.

The school describes a newly renovated, air-conditioned building with a leadership centre, dramatic arts studio and modern cafeteria. Arts life includes dramatic productions, art exhibits, a drumline and musical performances.

What it means for buyers and renters

Henry Carr was founded in 1974 by the Basilian Fathers. It sits on Martin Grove Road near St. Dorothy Catholic Elementary School, Etobicoke General Hospital and Humber College, according to the school.

That location makes it relevant for families looking at the detached and semi-detached streets of Rexdale and the Humber College area who want a Catholic option with AP close to home.

The school is named for Father Henry Carr (1880 to 1963), who founded St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto. Championship banners hang in its gym, and the school sums up its culture with the line “At Carr, We Care.”

Practical notes

  • Address: 1760 Martin Grove Road, Rexdale, M9V 3S4
  • Phone: 416-393-5521
  • Motto: “Domine ut videam” (Lord, that I might see)

5. Monsignor Percy Johnson Catholic High School

What it offers

Monsignor Percy Johnson stands out for hands-on technology and media. Its communication technology program covers CAD drafting, animation and graphics, plus amateur radio, video and photography, and the school has a fully equipped television studio.

The school fields 19 varsity teams, with notable results in basketball, volleyball and softball. A resource department serves gifted students and students with learning disabilities, and the ESL department supports English learners.

What it means for buyers and renters

The school page says it was announced in 1983 to relieve overcrowding at Father Henry Carr and Don Bosco. In 1993 it received a Ministry of Multiculturalism and Citizenship award for its anti-racism and multicultural programs.

The school is named after Monsignor Percy Johnson, who was born in Toronto in 1912 and ordained in 1936, and its tagline is “Heart Speaks to Heart.” Intramural programs run alongside the varsity teams.

For buyers in the Kipling and Albion corridor, it gives a second Catholic secondary option within north Etobicoke, which can matter if a sibling is already at one school or a student wants a technology focus.

Practical notes

  • Address: 2170 Kipling Avenue, Rexdale, M9W 4K9
  • Phone: 416-393-5535
  • Co-op includes off-campus placements, and after-school workshops cover English, math, science and computer studies.

What this means if you’re buying or selling in Etobicoke

Catholic secondary schools in Toronto work differently from the public system’s address-based model. Because TCDSB secondary schools accept applications from students across the city, you are usually choosing a commute, not buying an admission ticket.

That shifts the question to transit and walking routes. South Etobicoke buyers near Lake Shore have Father John Redmond close by, central Etobicoke buyers near Eringate and Rathburn are close to Michael Power/St. Joseph, and north Etobicoke buyers have Henry Carr and Percy Johnson.

For Bishop Allen, build the relocation into your plans. A family buying near the Royal York Road campus in 2026 or 2027 should confirm where classes will be held for their child’s Grade 9 year before counting on a walk.

TCDSB’s online locator is built for elementary schools, so for high school, talk to the school directly about registration and program entry. TCDSB opened registration for the next intake on 25 September 2026, and its open houses ran from 1 to 22 October. If you are timing a move around the school year, I am happy to help you map listings to each school’s route.
