By Jatin Dua · Broker of Record, RE/MAX Quantum Realty · Updated 2 October 2026 · 12 min read — the public, Catholic and secondary schools around Yonge and Eglinton, the TDSB’s published list of redirected condo addresses, and how to confirm the school for your unit.

Short answer

The five schools I would look at first from a Yonge and Eglinton condo are Eglinton Junior Public School (TDSB, JK to Grade 5, 223 Eglinton Avenue East), John Fisher Junior Public School (TDSB, JK to Grade 6, 40 Erskine Avenue, French Immersion and English), Hodgson Middle School (TDSB, Grades 6 to 8, 282 Davisville Avenue), North Toronto Collegiate Institute (TDSB, Grades 9 to 12, 17 Broadway Avenue) and St. Monica Catholic School (TCDSB, 14 Broadway Avenue, with a Gifted Centre). The order is my judgement, not an official ranking. The TDSB has redirected several new condo addresses to Rippleton PS or Whitney Jr. PS, so check the exact address first.

How I chose these five schools

Yonge and Eglinton has several long-established public schools within a few blocks of the subway, and the condo boom around them has created a school-space problem. In a December 2022 report the TDSB said that around Eglinton Jr. PS “approximately 1,000 additional elementary pupil places are required in the area.” So this guide does two jobs: it introduces the five schools a family here would look at first, and it shows you the board’s own list of condo addresses whose students are sent elsewhere.

Check the school for your unit. The TDSB designates schools by residential address, and its Find Your School tool gives the school for a street address; the TCDSB has its own locator. Run the exact building through both before you sign. I do not publish attendance boundaries, because they change.

How I judged them. I have not used third-party league tables. Ontario’s own measure is EQAO results, published school by school in the province’s Find a school tool. Grades, addresses and programmes below come from the boards’ own pages. The order is my judgement of proximity and programmes, not an official ranking.

1. Eglinton Junior Public School

What it offers

Eglinton Junior Public School, at 223 Eglinton Avenue East, is a TDSB school that the board now lists as JK to Grade 5. Its profile describes a French programme in which instruction is in French for half the day, with language, social studies, visual arts and drama taught in French and a Learning Through the Arts partnership with The Royal Conservatory. The Central Eglinton Children’s Centre operates on site, with before- and after-school care. The school says it has “served this community for over 100 years,” in a building whose design has won architectural awards.

What it means for buyers and renters

This is the local TDSB junior school for many addresses east of Yonge, but not for every new building. The TDSB’s March 2023 report said the Eglinton Jr. PS rebuild or expansion was “estimated to begin in 2026.” Ask the school what that means for your child’s years there.

Practical notes

Office: 416-393-9315. The TDSB’s current French pages list Early French Immersion (JK entry) and Middle French Immersion (Grade 4 entry), so ask the school which French programme runs there today.

2. John Fisher Junior Public School

What it offers

John Fisher Junior Public School, at 40 Erskine Avenue, is a TDSB school for JK to Grade 6 that the board describes as “the oldest elementary school in the TDSB.” Its older school profile traces it to 1816, as a log schoolhouse in Eglinton. Long known as a French Immersion centre, it is now a dual-track school: the TDSB says an English track opened in September 2022, starting with junior kindergarten and adding a grade each year.

What it means for buyers and renters

The TDSB’s March 2023 report put John Fisher at 357 students and 68 percent utilization in October 2022, against 449 students and 82 percent at Eglinton Jr. and 112 percent at Whitney Jr., and returned two Erskine Avenue developments, 101 Erskine and 18 Erskine, to John Fisher from September 2023.

Practical notes

Office: 416-393-9325. For Early French Immersion, the TDSB application for September 2027 runs from 2 November to 27 November 2026; a place in the programme is currently guaranteed to on-time applicants, but a place at a specific school is not.

3. Hodgson Middle School

What it offers

Hodgson Middle School is at 282 Davisville Avenue, just east of Mount Pleasant Road, and serves Grades 6 to 8. The TDSB says it has approximately 600 students, offers English and Extended French, and has served North Toronto since September 1915.

What it means for buyers and renters

Because Eglinton Jr. stops at Grade 5 and John Fisher at Grade 6, the middle-school years are a real decision here. The March 2023 TDSB report noted that Hodgson was about to begin construction on a renovation and addition. Ask which middle school your junior school feeds into before you buy for the long term.

4. North Toronto Collegiate Institute

What it offers

North Toronto Collegiate Institute, at 17 Broadway Avenue, is a TDSB secondary school for Grades 9 to 12, established in 1912. Its school profile lists a music programme with 11 ensembles, including a symphony orchestra, bands and choirs; a Global Education Certificate programme; more than 40 clubs and 20 athletic teams; and a Gold LEED building with a green roof and a modern theatre.

What it means for buyers and renters

A collegiate a short walk from the Yonge and Eglinton towers lets a family stay through the teenage years.

Other secondary options

Northern Secondary School, at 851 Mount Pleasant Road, is one of five TDSB Secondary Schools Without a Boundary. That means students no longer get automatic entry by address; they apply, and seats are filled by random selection. For September 2027 entry, the window is 4 to 22 January 2027, with no late applications.

5. St. Monica Catholic School

What it offers

St. Monica Catholic School, at 14 Broadway Avenue, is the TCDSB elementary school a block from Yonge. Its history page says it began in 1916, when parishioners asked for a portable school on Broadway near St. Monica Church; a permanent building followed by 1925, with additions in 1955, 1963 and 1966. The school lists a Gifted Centre, a classroom for students with developmental disabilities, daily special education support, ESL and child care, and it is wheelchair accessible.

What it means for buyers and renters

For a Catholic family, this is the neighbourhood school, and the Gifted Centre makes it relevant to some families from beyond the immediate area. The TCDSB pages do not state its grade range, so ask the school (416-393-5224) and check eligibility with TCDSB admissions at 416-397-6900.

Redirected addresses and the five schools side by side

When local schools are full, the TDSB redirects students from new developments to schools elsewhere “until space becomes available at local schools.” Eglinton Jr. PS publishes its list, last updated September 2024. Redirected to Whitney Jr. PS: 2221 Yonge Street and 5 Soudan Avenue/8 Hillsdale Avenue East (both 2018). Redirected to Rippleton PS: 200 Redpath Avenue (85 Broadway) and 71 Redpath Avenue (2019); 25 Holly Street/50 Dunfield Avenue and 39–41 Roehampton Avenue (2022); and 117 and 127 Broadway, 55 and 65 Broadway, 73 and 75 Broadway, 2161 Yonge Street (20 Soudan) and 413–431 Roehampton Avenue (2024).

Some went the other way. From September 2023 the TDSB returned 125 Redpath, 161 Roehampton, 33 Dunfield/44 Lillian, 11 Lillian, 99 Broadway/195 Redpath and 8 Eglinton Avenue East/15 Roehampton to Eglinton Jr. PS. The same report counted 27 more known developments and said redirection “will continue to be used as an interim solution.”

What this means if you are buying or selling here

TRREB counts most of the Yonge and Eglinton condo area inside district C10 (Mount Pleasant West and East); the west side of Yonge falls in C03. These are district-wide figures, not for any one building: in August 2026 C10 recorded 27 condo apartment sales at a median of $690,000 and an average of $676,178, at 96 percent of list price after an average of 38 days, with 169 active and 82 new listings, about 6.3 months of supply by my arithmetic. Twenty-seven sales is a small sample, so one month can swing.

For families, the redirection list matters as much as the price. If you are selling a unit in a building that is designated to Eglinton Jr. or John Fisher, that is worth stating, after you have confirmed it with the TDSB for your address. If you are buying in a new tower, check the list and call the school.

Condo Valuation

What’s your condo
worth today?

Three quick steps. Condos don’t price like houses — your floor, your view, and whether you own parking move the number more than anything else. This weighs all of them.

That happens constantly in condos — one has the parking, the right exposure, or a board that keeps the reserve fund healthy. A model can’t see your status certificate. I can.

How this works — your estimate comes from a model built on recent Toronto & GTA condo sale data, weighting area, size, layout, floor, exposure, view, parking, locker, age and condition. It is an automated estimate for information only — not an appraisal and not a Comparative Market Analysis. Condo values also depend on the building’s reserve fund, maintenance fees, recent special assessments and status certificate, none of which a model can read. Frequently asked questions

What elementary school is at Yonge and Eglinton?

Eglinton Junior Public School at 223 Eglinton Avenue East (TDSB, JK to Grade 5) and John Fisher Junior Public School at 40 Erskine Avenue (TDSB, JK to Grade 6) are the closest public elementary schools. St. Monica Catholic School at 14 Broadway Avenue is the TCDSB option. Check the board locators for your exact address.

Why are Yonge and Eglinton condos redirected to other schools?

The TDSB redirects students from new developments when local schools are overcrowded. Eglinton Jr. PS publishes a list of addresses sent to Whitney Jr. PS or Rippleton PS, and a 2022 TDSB report said about 1,000 more elementary places are needed in the area.

Is my condo redirected from Eglinton Junior Public School?

Check the redirected-addresses page on the Eglinton Jr. PS website, last updated September 2024, and the TDSB redirection map. Developers sometimes change a building’s address, so confirm with the school office.

Is John Fisher Public School French Immersion only?

No longer. John Fisher was a French Immersion centre, but the TDSB opened an English track in September 2022, starting in junior kindergarten and adding a grade each year. It now serves JK to Grade 6 in both tracks.

Can I get into Northern Secondary School by address?

Not automatically. Northern Secondary is one of five TDSB Secondary Schools Without a Boundary, so students apply and seats are filled by random selection. For September 2027 entry the application window is 4 to 22 January 2027, with no late applications.
