Get My Free Estimate →Pulled from Google autocomplete and the site’s own search data, what people actually want to know about The Queensway is not what a real estate site would guess. Property is not the top of the list.
I pulled Google’s autocomplete and my own search data for this corridor to find out what people genuinely want to know about The Queensway. The answer is not what a real estate site would guess.
The top of the list is not property
In order of what Google suggests when you type “the queensway”: the Cineplex, employment and social services, nails & spa, the church, the theatre, the general store, Canadian Tire. Add “queensway etobicoke” and you get: Cineplex again, restaurants, hospital, Costco, condos, HomeSense, IKEA.
Condos appear — sixth. People searching this corridor are overwhelmingly looking for things to do and places to go, not listings.
What that tells you about the neighbourhood
Three honest conclusions:
- The Cineplex is the corridor’s landmark. It is the single most-searched thing here, which is worth knowing given the site at 1025 has an approved redevelopment masterplan.
- Big-box retail is the identity. Costco, IKEA, HomeSense, Canadian Tire, Sherway. This is what The Queensway has been for sixty years and it is still what people associate with it.
- The food scene is under-searched relative to its quality. There are restaurants on this street rating 4.9 across 700-plus reviews and they get a fraction of the search volume that a cinema gets. The corridor’s reputation lags its actual offering.
The question people ask most
“Why is it called The Queensway” appears in Google’s own People Also Ask box, alongside “what is the Queensway neighbourhood”. People are trying to understand this place, not just transact in it. That is a good sign for anyone buying here — it means the area has an identity people are curious about.
And the trap
A large share of “queensway” searches return Queensway in London, England — the Tube station, the shopping centre, restaurants in Bayswater. If you are researching this corridor, always add Etobicoke or Toronto, or use a street number. Otherwise you will end up reading about a different continent.
