If you have been researching The Queensway and getting confusing results — a Tube station, a shopping centre, a motorway — you are not going mad. At least three well-known places are called Queensway, and search engines mix them constantly.
The three Queensways
- The Queensway, Etobicoke (Toronto) — the arterial road running parallel to the Gardiner through south Etobicoke, currently being redeveloped with mid-rise condominiums. This is the one this site is about.
- Queensway, London, England — a street and Underground station in Bayswater, with a shopping centre. This is what most bare “queensway” searches return: autocomplete offers “gym queensway london”, “best restaurants queensway london”, “things to do in queensway london”.
- The Queensway, Ottawa — the local name for Highway 417.
How to search so you get the right one
Always add a qualifier. “The Queensway Etobicoke” or “The Queensway Toronto” will get you here. Adding a street number works even better — “689 The Queensway”, “1185 The Queensway” — because the numbers are unambiguous.
If you are looking at a building, search the address rather than the building name. Condo names get reused across cities; municipal addresses do not.
Why this costs people real money
Two ways, and I see both:
- Bad comparables. People researching “Queensway condo prices” pull in numbers from the wrong country, or from the wrong end of a corridor that runs several kilometres. Prices at 689 and prices at 1500 are not the same market.
- Bad amenity research. A “best restaurants on Queensway” list that turns out to be Bayswater tells you nothing about whether you can walk to dinner from your building in Etobicoke.
The local naming quirk
In Etobicoke it is always “The Queensway”, with the article. Locals never drop it. If a listing or an article says just “Queensway” for a Toronto property, that is a small signal the writer is not from here — and often a signal the data was pulled from a feed rather than checked.
