By Jatin Dua · Broker of Record, RE/MAX Quantum Realty · Updated 2 October 2026 · 11 min read — the public, Catholic and secondary schools a King West or Liberty Village condo family would look at first, what each offers, and how to confirm the school for your address.

Short answer

The five schools I would look at first from a King West or Liberty Village condo are Niagara Street Junior Public School (TDSB, JK to Grade 6, 222 Niagara Street), St. Mary Catholic School (TCDSB, JK to Grade 8, 20 Portugal Square), Alexander Muir/Gladstone Ave Junior and Senior Public School (TDSB, JK to Grade 8, 108 Gladstone Avenue), Givins/Shaw Junior Public School (TDSB, JK to Grade 6, 49 Givins Street) and Parkdale Collegiate Institute (TDSB, Grades 9 to 12, with an International Baccalaureate programme). The order is my judgement, not an official ranking; check the TDSB and TCDSB locators for your exact building.

How I chose these five schools

Families buying in King West and Liberty Village usually ask two things: which school this address is assigned to, and what else is within reach. This guide answers the second and shows you how to answer the first.

I looked for four things: a public (TDSB) elementary school close to the area, a Catholic (TCDSB) option, a school that runs from kindergarten to Grade 8 so a child does not have to move at Grade 7, and a secondary school with a recognised programme.

Check the school for your unit. The TDSB designates schools by residential address, and its Find Your School tool gives the school for a street address; the TCDSB has its own locator. Run the exact building through both before you sign. I do not publish attendance boundaries, because they change.

How I judged them. I have not used third-party league tables. Ontario’s own measure is EQAO results, published school by school in the province’s Find a school tool. Grades, addresses and programmes below come from the boards’ own pages. The order is my judgement of proximity and programmes, not an official ranking.

1. Niagara Street Junior Public School

What it offers

Niagara Street Junior Public School is a TDSB school at 222 Niagara Street, running from junior kindergarten to Grade 6. Its TDSB profile calls it “a small but lively school” where “the teachers know each and every student by name.” It lists daily physical education with a specialist teacher, drama, dance, band, strings and visual arts, plus special education and intensive support programmes.

In the building are the Garrison Creek Community Daycare, for children aged 2.5 to 11, and a Parenting and Family Literacy Centre for preschoolers. Its history page says the school was built in 1874.

What it means for buyers and renters

For a condo family at the east end of King West, this is the TDSB junior school I would check first. On-site child care is a genuine advantage when both parents commute and the unit has no room for a nanny. Because it stops at Grade 6, plan where your child goes for Grades 7 and 8 before you commit to a long stay.

2. St. Mary Catholic School

What it offers

St. Mary Catholic School, at 20 Portugal Square, is the TCDSB option closest to the east side of King West. The school says it serves children “from three-year-olds in Junior Kindergarten to fourteen year-olds in Grade 8.” Established in 1854 by the Sisters of St. Joseph and the Christian Brothers, it is “one of Toronto’s oldest parish schools”; the current building opened in 1918.

The school describes itself as “a truly multicultural school,” with Portuguese, South American, Filipino, West Indian, Asian and Central American families, and it works closely with its neighbouring parish, with prayer, Mass and sacramental preparation part of school life.

What it means for buyers and renters

Because St. Mary runs to Grade 8, a child can stay in one school from JK until high school, which many condo families prefer to a Grade 7 move.

Practical notes

The TCDSB says it welcomes students who comply with the board’s admissions policy; check eligibility and the school for your address with the TCDSB locator and its admissions office (416-397-6900). The school’s own number is 416-393-5205.

3. Alexander Muir/Gladstone Ave Junior and Senior Public School

What it offers

Alexander Muir/Gladstone Ave (the school calls itself AMG) is a TDSB school at 108 Gladstone Avenue, running from JK to Grade 8. Its TDSB profile puts enrolment at approximately 390 students. It offers integrated International Languages classes in Cantonese, Portuguese, Mandarin and Vietnamese and a music programme taught with the Orff approach.

For working parents, the profile lists YMCA child care on site and a Parent and Family Literacy Centre. The school occupies two historic buildings, the original from 1888 and an adjoining one from 1952, and is named after Alexander Muir, who wrote “The Maple Leaf Forever.”

What it means for buyers and renters

AMG sits on the far side of Dufferin Street from Liberty Village, so it is the school I would put next to Niagara Street when a family is choosing between buildings at the west end of the village. The JK to 8 range avoids the Grade 7 move, and on-site YMCA care simplifies the school day for a two-commuter household.

Practical notes

If your designated school is different and you want AMG, the TDSB’s out-of-area process opens each January for the following September, and seats depend on space.

4. Givins/Shaw Junior Public School

What it offers

Givins/Shaw Junior Public School, at 49 Givins Street, is a TDSB school for JK to Grade 6. Its profile describes a small downtown school serving the Trinity Bellwoods community, with a strong arts programme in music, drama, dance and visual arts. There is a Parenting and Child Care Centre on site, and the school lists partnerships with the Trinity Recreation Centre and the public library.

What it means for buyers and renters

For buyers looking at low-rise condos and lofts on the Queen West and Trinity Bellwoods side streets north of King, Givins/Shaw is the junior school worth knowing. Like Niagara Street, it stops at Grade 6.

5. Parkdale Collegiate Institute (International Baccalaureate)

What it offers

Parkdale Collegiate Institute, at 209 Jameson Avenue, is a TDSB secondary school for Grades 9 to 12. The TDSB lists an International Baccalaureate (IB) programme with an enhanced PreBaccalaureate preparation programme, and two Specialist High Skills Majors, in Horticulture and Landscaping and in Health and Wellness. Its school profile adds that it has over 800 students and a 1,000-square-foot greenhouse used for the horticulture programme.

What it means for buyers and renters

Parkdale CI, west of Liberty Village, is my one specialty pick here because of its IB programme. Ask the school how students from outside its area are admitted and what the timeline is.

Other secondary options

Central Toronto Academy, at 570 Shaw Street, offers Advanced Placement, computer science and digital arts. It is one of five TDSB Secondary Schools Without a Boundary: students apply and seats are filled by random selection. For September 2027 entry the application window is 4 to 22 January 2027, with no late applications.

What this means if you are buying or selling here

TRREB counts King West and Liberty Village inside district C01, the downtown core. These numbers are district-wide, not for any one building: in August 2026 C01 recorded 204 condo apartment sales at a median of $585,000 and an average of $695,533, with units selling at 96 percent of list price after an average of 41 days. There were 1,102 active listings and 542 new listings, which by my arithmetic is about 5.4 months of supply and a sales-to-new-listings ratio of about 38 percent. Buyers have choice.

For families, that choice is mostly about layout: a true two-bedroom near the right school is a different product from a one-bedroom. When I list a family-sized unit, I name nearby schools only after checking the board locators for that address.

Condo Valuation

What’s your condo
worth today?

Three quick steps. Condos don’t price like houses — your floor, your view, and whether you own parking move the number more than anything else. This weighs all of them.

That happens constantly in condos — one has the parking, the right exposure, or a board that keeps the reserve fund healthy. A model can’t see your status certificate. I can.

How this works — your estimate comes from a model built on recent Toronto & GTA condo sale data, weighting area, size, layout, floor, exposure, view, parking, locker, age and condition. It is an automated estimate for information only — not an appraisal and not a Comparative Market Analysis. Condo values also depend on the building’s reserve fund, maintenance fees, recent special assessments and status certificate, none of which a model can read.
