Three salons on this corridor sit at exactly 4.8, separated only by how many people have reviewed them. Here is the honest read on which is which.

The ranking

# Name Rating Reviews Address
1 Venus Victoria Salon & Spa 4.8 214 717 The Queensway
2 Off With The Hair On Queensway 4.8 131 960A The Queensway
3 Shades Unisex Hair Studio 4.8 46 749 The Queensway
4 Hair To Hair 4.5 28 816 The Queensway

The three-way tie, broken

Venus Victoria, Off With The Hair and Shades all hold 4.8. The difference is depth: 214 reviews, 131 and 46 respectively. Same score, very different amounts of evidence.

Read that as Venus Victoria being the safest choice on the numbers, Off With The Hair equally strong at the west-central end, and Shades genuinely well liked by a smaller group. None of it tells you who cuts hair the way you want it cut — go and look.

Worth noting separately: “the queensway nails & spa” is one of the most common local autocomplete searches on this corridor, so nail and spa services are clearly in demand here beyond the hair salons above.

The buying angle

Salons cluster at 717 to 816, with one outlier at 960A — the same east-central stretch where the restaurants and pet services concentrate. The pattern across every category I checked is identical: the walkable service village on The Queensway runs roughly 620 to 960. Everything west of about 1100 is a driving neighbourhood with big-box retail rather than a walking one with independents.

Neither is better. They are different products, and the marketing for both uses the same Walk Score language.

Why this matters if you are buying here

Personal services — salons, barbers, nail bars, clinics — are the retail category that survives online competition best, because the service cannot be shipped. A dense personal-services row is therefore one of the more durable signs that a strip will still be a working strip in ten years, which is exactly the horizon that matters when you are buying property on it.

The Queensway condominium corridor is mostly mid-rise stock from roughly 2015 onward, sitting directly on the retail frontage rather than behind it. That produces a specific kind of daily life — most errands on foot, both the Gardiner Expressway and Highway 427 close by car, and an arterial road as the front yard.

The due diligence that actually applies

  • Which side of the street, and how high. Stand in the bedroom with the window open at a busy hour. Two units in one building can be very different products on this variable alone.
  • The reserve fund, against the age of the corporation. These buildings are young, so a low fee is arithmetic rather than evidence of good management. Ask whether the first reserve fund study update has happened and what it did to the required contribution.
  • What the fee includes. Utilities are usually separately metered here. Add your own estimated bills before comparing against an older all-inclusive Etobicoke building.
  • Parking and locker status. Owned unit, exclusive-use common element, or rented — only the first two convey.
  • What is proposed next door. The corridor is still developing, so the low-rise or parking lot beside a building may not stay that way. The City’s development application records are public.

Frequently asked questions

Are there good hair salons on The Queensway?

The corridor carries a dense mix of independent salons, barbers and chains along its length. Small independents change hands, move and rebrand frequently, and stylists move between salons, so ratings attached to a business name can be a poor guide. Check current reviews and book with a specific stylist rather than a specific address.

Why are there so many salons on The Queensway?

Personal services are among the retail categories least affected by online competition, because the service cannot be shipped. Arterial strips with steady foot traffic and affordable small units tend to accumulate them, which is what has happened here. It is a sign of a functioning retail street rather than an oddity.

Does street-level retail matter when buying a condo?

It is one of the more durable supports for residential values, because a continuous occupied frontage is difficult to replicate and does not depend on any single business surviving. What is worth paying for is the frontage and the foot traffic rather than a particular tenant, since independents turn over regularly.

Is it noisy living above retail on The Queensway?

It depends on the tenant below and on your specific unit. Personal services are among the quieter neighbours; restaurants with extraction fans and early deliveries are not. Which floor you are on and which side of the building you face matter more than the address. Visit the unit in the evening with the windows open.

What other services are on The Queensway?

A full working strip: groceries, pharmacies, banks, gyms, restaurants, coffee, hardware, medical and dental practices, and big-box retail. That combination at street level is the corridor’s main practical argument as a place to live, and it distinguishes it from the waterfront towers a kilometre south.

How do I check what is proposed near a Queensway building?

The City of Toronto publishes development applications and they are public. Ask your agent to check what is under application on the parcels adjacent to any building you are considering — the corridor is still developing, and a low-rise or parking lot beside a building may not stay that way.
