Grocery access is one of the few amenities that genuinely changes whether a condo works day to day, and it is the one most often misrepresented in listings. Here is what is actually on The Queensway in Etobicoke.

The options

# Store Rating Reviews Address
1 Longo’s Queensway 4.3 187 1055 The Queensway
2 Ontario Food Terminal 4.3 508 165 The Queensway
3 Sobeys Queensway 4.2 2,765 125 The Queensway
4 Cosimo’s NOFRILLS 4.1 2,508 748 The Queensway

Read this before you read the ratings

Grocery ratings compress. Everything here sits between 4.1 and 4.3, and the two with huge review bases — Sobeys at 2,765 and NoFrills at 2,508 — are within 0.1 of each other. That spread is noise. Do not choose a condo based on a 0.2 difference between supermarkets.

What actually differs is format and location. Longo’s at 1055 is the premium option, mid-corridor. Cosimo’s NoFrills at 748 is the discount option inside the walkable east cluster. Sobeys at 125 is at the far east end near Park Lawn.

The Ontario Food Terminal is not a grocery store

It appears in every grocery search for this corridor and rates 4.3 across 508 reviews, but the Ontario Food Terminal at 165 The Queensway is a wholesale produce market — where restaurants and independent grocers buy. It is not open to the general public for regular shopping. Worth knowing, because listing copy references it as a nearby amenity in a way that implies otherwise.

Which buildings can actually walk to groceries

  • Around 700–800 — Cosimo’s NoFrills at 748 is a genuine walk. Curio at 799 is essentially across the road.
  • Around 1000–1100 — Longo’s at 1055 is walkable. Loggia at 1040 and 1050 are very close.
  • Everywhere else — a drive or a bus, whatever the Walk Score implies.

Costco is close to the corridor and one of the most searched things about this area, but it is a drive for almost every building here, and it is not a top-up shop.

Why this matters if you are buying here

Grocery access is the single most practical advantage of buying on The Queensway, and it is the one people underrate until they live somewhere without it. A weekly shop you can walk to changes how much you use a car, which in this part of Toronto is unusual and genuinely valuable.

The Queensway condominium corridor is mostly mid-rise stock from roughly 2015 onward, sitting directly on the retail frontage rather than behind it. That produces a specific kind of daily life — most errands on foot, both the Gardiner Expressway and Highway 427 close by car, and an arterial road as the front yard.

The due diligence that actually applies

  • Which side of the street, and how high. Stand in the bedroom with the window open at a busy hour. Two units in one building can be very different products on this variable alone.
  • The reserve fund, against the age of the corporation. These buildings are young, so a low fee is arithmetic rather than evidence of good management. Ask whether the first reserve fund study update has happened and what it did to the required contribution.
  • What the fee includes. Utilities are usually separately metered here. Add your own estimated bills before comparing against an older all-inclusive Etobicoke building.
  • Parking and locker status. Owned unit, exclusive-use common element, or rented — only the first two convey.
  • What is proposed next door. The corridor is still developing, so the low-rise or parking lot beside a building may not stay that way. The City’s development application records are public.

Frequently asked questions

What grocery stores are on The Queensway?

The corridor carries a mix of full-size supermarkets, discount banners and specialty and ethnic grocers, spread along its length rather than concentrated in one place. Which ones are within walking distance depends entirely on which block you are on, so walk it from the specific address you are considering.

Can you live on The Queensway without a car?

For groceries and daily errands, largely yes — that is the corridor’s main practical advantage. For commuting it is harder, because there is no subway station on the corridor itself and you rely on surface routes connecting toward Line 2. Most residents here keep a car and use it less than they would elsewhere in Etobicoke.

Is grocery access important when buying a condo?

It is one of the more durable amenity factors, because it is difficult to replicate and it does not depend on any single business surviving. A building within a genuine walk of a full-size grocery store behaves differently on resale from one that requires a drive, and the difference persists across market cycles.

Where is the nearest Costco to The Queensway?

Big-box retail, including warehouse shopping, sits along and near the corridor, which is part of why The Queensway attracts buyers who want to drive less for routine shopping. Locations, hours and membership requirements change, so confirm directly rather than relying on a general answer.

Is there a farmers market near The Queensway?

Seasonal markets operate in various parts of south Etobicoke through the warmer months, and their locations and schedules change year to year. Check the City of Toronto’s current listings and local community sources for the season you are asking about rather than relying on a fixed answer.

Which Etobicoke area has the best everyday shopping?

The Queensway, for street-level convenience and range in one continuous strip. Mimico and New Toronto have an established Lake Shore Boulevard West strip with a different, more village-scaled character. Islington City Centre is oriented to plaza and office retail. Humber Bay Shores has the least at the door.
